Church Camp

Church camps offer many activities and experiences to lift spiritual awareness and spiritual motivation. They also offer a safe environment of Christian community for children, teenagers, and entire families. Choosing a church camp can be overwhelming when parents and children see how many great programs there are out there. It is important for a family to decide what they want to get out of this experience. These programs and facilities offer a variety of activities, with some being more extreme than others. An example of the difference in these programs is white water rafting and rock climbing versus a calmer environment of hiking and star gazing.

Each program is extraordinary, so the family must decide what they want to do and what type of camp can keep all members of the family involved. For a family with small children, the choice may include a church camp that offers activities that are appropriate for this age group. It is important for families seeking these experiences to find something that will be enjoyable and exciting for all members. This is not to say that members of the family need to eliminate the options of all church camps that offer any extreme sports, just that the interests of all individuals must be taken into consideration when deciding on a facility or program.

As with any vacation, there must be a budget for this experience. Families should make sure their budget includes getting to the church camp, extra costs while there, and the drive home. It is also a good idea to have some money budgeted for an emergency. People may not think about the worst possible scenarios when thinking about vacation or church camps, but if they do so before the vacation, any disasters or emergencies that occur won't seem so disastrous when they happen.

Planning a visit to a summer camp may be a yearlong process. This includes budgeting for the trip, arranging work schedules, and mentally preparing for the spiritual experience that church camps have to offer. Parents should get their children excited before leaving for church camp, including letting them help plan and work towards the privilege to go. It is important to start praying regularly a couple of weeks before leaving so everyone can mentally prepare for the privilege of this experience. This will prepare children and to help them learn to depend on God for the success in anything they do. "But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15)
