Corporate Retreat

Planning a corporate retreat requires not only well planned strategies, but also a knowledge of what motivates employees, creating an environment of cohesion and determination. Gaining a knowledge of how to accomplish motivation comes from carefully observing the needs and behaviors of employees while designing the specifics involved with corporate retreats. The key is to design a function that everyone can get excited about, including all attendees in on the details and action plan. People respond well to situations that they help to create. Let everyone know how much fun it will be and get input. Attendance will increase by telling everyone what can be expected.

There are several steps that event planners or managers can take to create a sense of excitement. Start by jotting down ideas for information sessions, team building activities, and relaxation sessions. Ask employees what would make them want to come to corporate retreats and what type of setting would work best for them. If planning an overnight corporate retreat, but no one can find babysitters, attendance will be low. Another thing to consider is having a 'retreat' type day once a month or once every two months to fulfill the needs of the business without having to do an overnight trip.

When putting together a retreat for employees, remember to have time for retreating! Some information sessions might have nothing to do with work. Adding fun helps employees relax and bond, getting to know one another on new levels. Some examples would be woodworking 101 or creative parenting. By showing interest and offering information about employee's personal lives, performances will be enhanced within the workplace. Event planners in charge of the corporate retreat may want to offer general information sessions about the company, economics, or time management strategies giving employees information that they do not have time to seek out for themselves. Taking care of those under our care is Biblical. "It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity." (Proverbs 21:15)

Team building activities should be done in a relaxed, but challenging way. It will be beneficial to stay away from an environment of stress and anxiety while at a corporate retreat. Corporate retreats are supposed to build relationships, not skills. For example, planners might offer trust activities or 'out-of-the-box' challenges to enhance mental strength and communication between co-workers. And, after team building session, planners may want to employ a massage therapist or just create a room that is relaxing to sit in. Whatever activities chosen, make sure planners and managers are doing it with and for the employees, because taking part will create a sense of team that will last over into the work days ahead.
