Crucifixion of Jesus

Passover is not only a holy celebration in Judaism, it is one of the essential elements in Christianity, the climax of the life of Jesus Christ. It was during the holy Jewish feast when many of the events that led to Jesus crucifixion took place. The Son of Man was betrayed by Judas, arrested, crucified, and resurrected. The timing of these events was not a surprise in any way to the Son of God. He knew what was going to occur and what God was asking of Him. Preparations were being made and completed in order to fulfill the will of God which would include the crucifixion of Jesus. This was a sacrifice of the Lamb of God, allowing individuals the opportunity to seek salvation and redemption through the love and grace of God through his Son. The history of this Jewish celebration is relative to the importance of this time when the crucifixion of Jesus took place. The celebration of Passover is a celebration of the exodus from Egypt by the Israelites led by Moses. The Israelites had been enslaved by the Pharaoh. When Pharaoh refused to comply with Moses' pleas to release the Jewish slaves, God sent ten plagues on the people of Egypt. The last of the plagues sent by God promised death for the first born of all those who had not marked their doors with lambs blood. As death came to the eldest sons of individuals who defied this command, the blood of the lambs allowed death to pass over the homes of the Israelites who did obey. Shortly after the Israelites fled from the Egyptian forces under Moses' leadership. The historic time is filled with events which showed the great magnitude of the power of God and His ability to do marvelous things. For example, Moses was able to part the Red Sea with the help of God. The occurrences during this first celebration of the holy feast were still observed 3,000 years later when the Lamb of God was sacrificed to cover the sins of the world.

Much like the lamb's blood that was used to save the Israelites from the plague, sent by God, to take the life of the first born sons, Jesus became the Lamb of God when He was crucified on Calvary. The Son of God was sent with a divine mission to fulfill. Gods plan took shape within a short time after the Passover meal that the Savior of the world shared with His Disciples. He was arrested and crucified to take the sins of the world upon shoulders that were the only ones able to bear such a burden. The crucifixion of Jesus climaxed a very detailed and intricately planned operation that would allow for the atonement of sins through the fulfillment of God's plan to send His Son to die for our sins. These things were even shown much earlier than the time that our Saviour lived in the stories and books of the Old Testament. For more information about the Bible, visit these Bible resources.

Even though the death of the Christ climaxed the Plan of God, the body of the Messiah, which had lain in a borrowed tomb, experienced an even greater climax. On the third day, an earthquake and other strange occurrences led to the discovery of the resurrection of the victorious Messiah. It was at this time, which coincided with the Passover feast, that the Plan of Salvation was fulfilled and complete. The resurrection of the Christ is the evidence that He is the Son of God. It also becomes the example of how, in the end, those who have accepted Christ will live, even beyond physical death, because they have been faithful servants and witnesses of his birth, life, death, burial, and resurrection. "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain" (1 Corinthians 15:14).

Jesus took the sins of humanity upon Himself when He was arrested, tortured, crucified and resurrected during the high holy days. This plan, laid out by God, allowed individuals to come to know God by salvation through Jesus Christ and Jesus crucifixion and resurrection. Understanding faith and redemption can only be done by hearing and understanding this true tale of heroic sacrifice and love that was provided by God and the crucifixion of Jesus, His Son, the Lamb of God at the time of Passover. There is no way to explain the measure of love and honor that comes with this gift that has been provided to all people. Jesus came, as a gift to the world. By preaching to people, healing the sick, and performing miracles, God's love was shown to mankind, no matter where He was or who He was with. The Son of God became human to suffer and die for the sins of the world, not for glory and honor, but to give Himself so that humans, much like the ones who mocked and beat the physical body, would have the chance to live eternally in His kingdom. The crucifixion of Jesus is a vital part of Christianity and salvation.
