Discount Religious Jewelry
Religious jewelry has a somewhat understated role, but an important place in Christian tradition. Over the centuries, pieces of religious jewels, whether in fine gold or dependable nickel, were crafted to represent the most holy symbols of the faith. From discount religious jewelry such as simplistic pieces to ornate baubles that adorn the faithful, necklaces, bracelets and rings are simple reminders of the Gospel and the commitment to their Lord.
However, for some of a strictly conservative mind frame, adornment and jewelry of any sort is considered as unrighteous and religious jewelry as downright pagan. In condemnation, this sect of Christianity refers to Paul's words in 1 Timothy 2:9-10 in defense: "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array: but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." This same instruction is given by Peter in 1 Peter 3:3-4. However, it could be considered that discount religious jewelry, especially simplistic, unobtrusive pieces are not meant as an adornment that is worn intending to enhance one's perception of personal beauty, but as a mean's of a silent confession of faith. Within these same passages, women were also instructed to keep silent, ornamented with a meek and quiet spirit, and adorned with subjection unto their own husbands. How better to still express their own testament of their faith than a simple token symbol!
Regardless of the end of the belief one takes, the subject of religious jewelry cannot be imposed to call the issue one of doctrinal importance. As long as rings and necklaces are worn in good taste, in a modest manner and with good intentions, such as a silent confession of one's faith, they cannot be regarded a contentious matter that will tear apart a church. Most very faithful and religious cultures have accepted jeweled adornments among their women. Both very expensive pieces and discount religious jewelry are unquestioned in most congregations.
Paul's advice to Timothy expresses the importance of what a Christian example is in chapter 4, verses 12,13,15: "be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. ... Meditate upon these things and give thyself wholly to them, that thy profiting may appear to all." The wearing of religious jewelry, whether expensive or discount, has little bearing upon the example of a true Christian which is revealed in the behavior, attitude and religious expression of such a person.
