The history of Veterans Day includes honoring those who have served or are currently serving in the Armed forces. Before 1954 the holiday was known as Armistice Day. Armistice Day officially began in 1918 to honor World War I veterans. After legislation was approved it became a day to honor all veterans and is officially celebrated on November 11th. Americans can commemorate this holiday by recognizing those who have fought and served to keep American free.
