Motherhood
Mothers are the subject of both praise and criticism, and sometimes the messages sent by society makes it difficult to determine the importance of motherhood. Mothering has never lost its importance in Christian society. Biblical principles that guide Christians through life and keep them focused upon acceptable behavior, help the Christian mom in guiding her children to adulthood with the knowledge that life is a gift from God, and these lives deserve respect. A Christian mother provides firm guidelines for living a life full of purpose, honesty, and integrity. She does not raise the little ones alone, of course. If she has chosen a Godly man to be the father of her children, he stands beside her in the raising of the family. And if Mom is unfortunate enough to lose him through divorce or death, God and the church are still there for support.
Too many women in today's society have decided not to be moms by killing their children in the womb. Abortion as an acceptable alternative to motherhood has allowed evil to permeate our society. Christian mothers have to stand strongly in defense of morality and its importance in improving the way we live. The future of our society depends upon strong, God-fearing parents who go against the tide of current trends.
Looking at motherhood from a different direction, young moms are often away from their best source of information when they have their first baby--their mothers. When that happens, her doctor will probably be her main source of information as far as the pregnancy and birth experience are concerned. There may even be a friend available who is expecting at the same time, or has recently had a child. In today's world, no matter how far from Mom the young mother-to-be is, if she has a computer, most questions will be answered. If the new mom enrolls in a pre-birth class, she will learn as much as possible about the process. For more information about God's truth for moms, click here.
After having a baby, mothers find out how little sleep they can survive on, and just how erratic the appetite of a newborn can be. While she delights in the new life, this new lifestyle takes time to get used to. Motherhood is sometimes like entering a maze, and it's hard to find one's way through. The wonderful thing is, the woman usually figures it out, and both she and the child survive without permanent scars. It helps to maintain a sense of humor, just as with the rest of life. Children can be both frustrating and delightful, and sharing the life of a child is like no other experience in the world. The single most important thing moms can do for their children is to love them unconditionally. Kids will do things moms don't like and will have to be punished for bad behavior, but love should never be withdrawn because of wrong actions. Children will learn from mistakes as long as they can count on the "rock" of being loved.
Christian mothers can find helpful information for every stage of a child's development from books or magazines that are available in the library or bookstores that have been written from a Christian slant. Since we can't remember how we were thinking at a very young age, and thus relate to the child, having someone who is an expert explain why they are doing certain things helps a lot. Scripture promises us "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)
