Sinus Infection Treatment

Sinus infection treatment can attack many different levels of this condition and the care plans can be as varied as the severity throughout the allergic population. A sinus treatment can include home remedies or decongestants, or in the case of chronic sinusitis, antibiotics are more effective; and in some severe cases, surgery may be what is required to get the patient relief. There are two main classifications of this illness: Acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. The right kind of doctor to manage sinus infection treatment is an Otolaryngologist or ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist). Acute conditions are usually preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants. The preferred medication for combating these problems is over-the-counter decongestants, nebulizers, and aspirin or ibuprofen for the pain. In other words, attempting to cure acute sinusitis is simple, inexpensive, and usually quite successful in ridding the patient of the problem.

Chronic sinusitis, on the other hand, is a prolonged sinusitis that has lasted for more than three months. Sinus treatment for chronic sinusitis consists of antibiotics administered orally, with a nebulizer, or by IV. The length of sinus treatment for each type of medication varies. Sinus infection treatment in the form of oral antibiotics are taken daily for 2-3 weeks; nebulized antibiotics (breathed through the nose) are used for 2-3 weeks; IV antibiotics are generally given for 4-6 weeks before the infection is cleared up. Surgery is generally the last resort in an attempt to correct chronic problems, and is now done as an endoscopic surgery, so it doesn't require making incisions in the patient's face. Several weeks of recovery are required after surgery.

Generally, a sinusitis condition causes nasal congestion and facial pain and pressure, will last more than ten days, and could also cause a thick yellow/green mucus discharge, requiring sinus infection treatment. When breathing in through the nose, the sinuses act like a filter. If sinus pathways do not properly drain, they become "diseased" and cause difficulty breathing through the nose, cause facial pain, and other symptoms which require some form of medication to treat. Treatment plans should also include prayer time with the Lord, who can comfort us in all afflictions. "For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ." (1 Corinthians 1:5)

Acute or Chronic sinusitis can cause serious interference with one's lifestyle because of the constant pain and discomfort, so sinus treatment should be sought as soon as an infection is suspected. Because many symptoms of sinusitis requiring care coincide with those of a cold, many people fail to seek proper care when it would be most beneficial. Even though sinuses aren't fully developed until approximately the age of 20, they can still present problems to younger people, especially if they are victims of acute respiratory allergies.
