Thanksgiving Traditions
Thanksgiving traditions are reenacted to remind citizens of the celebration that the Pilgrims enjoyed after their first harvest in the New World. These events have continued for many years. There are diverse events that have roots in many cultures that are indicative of the nation's heritage and influence. Today, a Thanksgiving party or dinner in many households throughout the country has its own unique foods, family culture and religious leanings. The most prominent of all is the plentiful table spread with various foods and a family member who offers grateful thanks to God above, who does all things well! "The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens." (Psalm 113:4)
Unfortunately, there seems to have been an attempt by the secularists to rewrite history to the effect that God was no where near the first Thanksgiving party! Just as Christmas has been secularized, many Thanksgiving traditions that have their roots in Christianity have been ignored, explained away or otherwise blasted into oblivion by those in America who enjoy the freedom that our forefathers sacrificed to provide. It's hard to deny the Christian heritage expressed in Plymouth, Massachusetts so long ago.
In authentic accounts that document the roots of historic events, it is a fact that Englishmen and women left their families behind on the distant shores of Britain to pursue religious freedom. According to old documents, the Pilgrims pursued a new homeland that would have no governmental controls on their worship to the one, Almighty Creator. The first community event where they openly thanked God for His provisions set the stage for Thanksgiving traditions and every Thanksgiving party that has followed. It's hard to deny the intrinsic meaning of the holiday even for an atheist who has to say the word 'thanks' when referring to a historical meal.
